Acupuncture for Migraines & Chronic Headaches in Williamsport, PA

If you get migraines, you already know they are not just a bad headache. They can take a whole day from you. The light that suddenly hurts, the nausea, the throb behind one eye, the way you start planning your life around the next one. And you have probably been told to manage them: take this when it starts, avoid your triggers, wait it out.

I look at it differently. The question I care about is not only how to stop the migraine you have today. It is why your body keeps making them in the first place.

Why migraines keep coming back

A migraine is rarely one thing. In the medicine I practice, the pain is the loud end of a quieter pattern, and the pattern is what we treat. For one person it is tension that never fully leaves the neck and shoulders. For another it is blood sugar swinging too far between meals. For another it is stress and poor sleep keeping the nervous system on high alert, or hormones, or a gut that is not doing its job. Often it is a few of these at once.

That is why the same headache medicine works beautifully for one person and does nothing for the next. They do not actually have the same problem. They have the same symptom.

How acupuncture helps

Acupuncture works on migraines from a different direction than a pill. Instead of blocking the pain after it starts, it works to settle the system that keeps generating it. Treatment calms an overactive nervous system, eases the tension feeding the head and neck, and improves circulation and sleep, the conditions migraines tend to grow in. For many people that means attacks that come less often, hurt less when they do, and let go faster.

I want to be honest about what that looks like. Migraines that have been happening for years do not usually vanish after one visit. What tends to change first is the frequency and the intensity, and that builds over a series of treatments as the pattern underneath settles. The people who see the most change are the ones who give it a fair run.

What makes this approach different

Most care for headaches treats the headache. I am more interested in why your body has not been able to fix it on its own. Alongside acupuncture, I work with the whole picture: your sleep, your digestion, your blood sugar and blood chemistry, the stress your body is carrying. Sometimes the thing driving your migraines is not in your head at all, and finding it is the difference between managing them forever and actually turning them down.

That is the Reidy Center approach: treat the person, not just the symptom.

What to expect at your first visit

Your first visit is unhurried. We talk through your history, your triggers, your patterns, what you have already tried. I look at the whole system, not just the headache. Then you receive your first treatment, which most people find deeply relaxing, and you leave with a clear sense of the plan and what to expect next.

Common questions

Does acupuncture hurt? The needles are extremely thin, nothing like a shot. Most people feel a small pinch at most, and then a heavy, calm relaxation. Many fall asleep on the table.

How many treatments will I need? It depends on how long the migraines have been happening and what is driving them. Many people start noticing a shift within a handful of visits. We talk about a realistic plan at your first appointment, no open-ended commitment.

Can I do this alongside my medication? Yes. Acupuncture works well next to conventional care, and nothing here asks you to stop what your doctor has prescribed. Many people find that as their migraines settle, they reach for the medication less often.

Is it safe? Acupuncture performed by a licensed, trained practitioner has an excellent safety record. I have more than 20 years of clinical experience.
